Early Detection of the Wear of Coriolis Flowmeters Through <i>In Situ</i> Stiffness Diagnosis

Coriolis flowmeters have been widely employed in a variety of industrial applications. There is potential that the measuring tube flowmeter may be eroded when it used to measure abrasive fluid such as slurry flow. However, challenging verify structural health without process interruptions or using on-site calibration devices meter provers. This article presents an situ health-monitoring technique through stiffness diagnosis identify wear occurring on tube. To frequency response flowmeter, which strongly depends characteristics tube, not only excited at resonant but also two additional off-resonant frequencies. Through digital processing drive and sensor signals, obtained stiffness-related diagnostic parameter (SRDP) extracted from flowmeter. The proposed was experimentally evaluated commercial bent-tube with dilute sand-water results illustrate slight erosion successfully identified relative change SRDP reaches -1%, showing good capability for early detection wear. In addition, outcomes recalibration water suggest that, after occurs, overestimates mass flowrate underestimates flow density.
